With huge thanks to frequent commenter Dan (the Library Man), I have a few new books that are headed for the big screen to tell you about.
Cirque du Freak – Yes, the book that managed to freak me out with only a few chapters is headed for the big screen. Darren Shan’s Cirque du Freak is due in theaters sometime in 2008. If you get a chance, check out the cast list. It’s huge, and includes Salma Hayek.
Screwtape Letters – That’s right. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is currently in pre-production with a theoretical release date in 2008 sometime. No word on casting as yet.
Marley & Me – Marley & Me, John Grogan’s memoir about his dog, will be appearing on the big screen on Christmas 2008. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston are playing the human leads. No word on the dog yet.
He’s just not that into you – Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo’s non-fiction book “He’s just not that into you : the no-excuses truth to understanding guys” has been adapted for the big screen. This star-heavy film will appear in cinemas on 24 October 2008. It should be interesting to see how this adaptation works out, as the film version seems to be a fiction adaptation of a non-fiction book.
Nights in Rodanthe – Another Nicholas Sparks book is headed to the big screen. Nights in Rodanthe will star Diane Lane and Richard Gere and will appear in US cinemas on 3 October 2008.
As usual, if you have any news of upcoming book to film adaptations, please let me know. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for the next trailer for Twilight with everyone else.

At the moment, IMDB is giving a release date of 19 February, 2009 for Cirque Du Freak, which will reportedly be an adaptation of the first three books in the series.
Thanks for the added info, Nomad! I was wondering how many of the books this one would cover. When I looked this morning the IMBD had actual February 2009 dates for a few places, but plain “2008″ for the USA.
Screwtape Letters is still in the writing phase – won’t be shooting for some time.
Thanks, Ralph. Any idea how far along the script is?
