Today is the first day of Autumn. The weather is starting to cool down from the heat of summer here and around the country. Leaves are turning beautiful oranges and reds and making a showy display of color. It’s a little chilly in the mornings and evenings, and we need a sweater again to keep warm. It’s starting to get dark earlier, and we spend less time outdoors than indoors.
At the library, we notice a change in the rhythm of our days. The children have gone back to school. During the summer the library is busy all day. Now, it is quieter until school lets out, then it gets very busy. Weekends at the library are noticibly busier, too as parents bring in their children to get the books they need for reports, and reading.
And programs, we have programs! Check out our Event Calendar and you’ll find programs galore for yourself and for your children. Storytimes, yoga, movies, job hunting help, computer help, math tutoring, author events, and much, much more. Come join the fun!
And when you have a chance to stop, and step away from the busyness of this time of year, take the time to smell the crisp air and appreciate the beauty around you. And if you can reflect on this poem I found, which I think reflects what is special about this time of year, all the better.
Yellow, mellow, ripened days,
Sheltered in a golden coating;
O’er the dreamy, listless haze,
White and dainty cloudlets floating;
Winking at the blushing trees,
And the sombre, furrowed fallow;
Smiling at the airy ease
Of the southward-flying swallow.
Sweet and smiling are thy ways,
Beauteous, golden, Autumn days! ,
.
Will Carleton Autumn Days
Have a wonderful Autumn season, wherever the road takes you!
