The American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago observe Money Smart Week® (MSW) April 21-28.  MSW is a series of free classes and activities designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.  This year, as a partner, the Fremont Main Library at 2400 Stevenson Blvd. will host the following programs.

Annuities and Annuity Fraud    Tuesday, April 24, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Join Alyce Sandbach, Prosecutor with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, and Neil Granger, Insurance and Annuity Consultant, to learn about different annuities and what you must know to protect yourself from fraud.  Sandbach will present on specific prosecutions, classic red flags that signal fraud, and laws that govern the conduct of salespeople and protect buyers.  Granger, who consults for government agencies and non-profits, will speak on the different types of annuities now on the market.

 The ABC’s of Long Term Care    Wednesday, April 25, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Amanda Baldwin, MSW, Legal Assistance for Seniors, will talk about the pros and cons of Long Term Care (LTC) Insurance and:

 describe the differences between Medicare coverage and long term care

 explain ways of getting long-term care and options for financing it

 focus on the features as well as the pros and cons of LTC insurance

 offer guidelines for purchasing long-term care insurance

 Saving Money on Your Home    Thursday, April 26, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

George Duarte, President of Horizon Financial and Certified Green Real Estate Professional, will speak about energy upgrade programs and rebates for performance audits that are available; as well as different financing alternatives. Find out how this can be done when purchasing a home, or when energy retrofitting a home someone already lives in

 Using Your iPhone and iPad    Friday, April 27, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Use your iPhone to advance your career and keep up with friends and business; or use your iPad to relax and enjoy leisure time.  Cyndi Kwong of Global Internet Group Use will talk about the different strategies and various apps that serve the needs of smartphone and tablet users.  Learn how to use your gadget to help solve your on-the-go problems and keep up with the latest news, track your job search, your banking or your business.

All programs are free and no registration is required.
