I do not remember having this long rainy season and the month of April being this cold here in the Bay Area as we did this year. Thank God, after waiting for a while we do have our spring finally here.
So, what are the things you like to do in Spring? As for me, I like to be working in my garden for hours each morning, taking care of my plants and enjoying them. My day starts with a cup of tea in one hand I go around and inspect what needs to be done in the garden before I actually get to it.
It is a treat to have those beautiful colorful flowers in the garden. And if you have few vetables also growing, that feels like an added bonus. Yesterday I picked one head of califlower and I was so thrilled! I also love to see those humming birds visiting my garden. The other day I saw a tiny baby humming bird, hardly the size of your thumbnail, treating itself to the flowers in my garden.
I am no skilled garden by any means. A few years ago I did not know a thing about gardening. But I have the interest and am learing something each day from reading gardening books and surfing the Internet. Many great websites out there. One of my favorit is www.gardenhelper.com
On that note, Alameda County library has a pretty good collection of books about gardening. Any thing you want to do in your garden, preparing the soil, taking care of your plants, growing fruits and vegetables, native plants, you name it — you can find material in this collection. Please check it out at www.aclibrary.org Or come visit us at Fremont library. We are here to help you find any information you may need.
