Part 4: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Things to Eat and Drink!
You’ve gone on a ride, seen a show, and done a bit of shopping. If you are thirsty, or feeling a bit peckish, here are your options:
If you would just like a drink, you can stop in the “Hog’s Head Pub” for a Butterbeer , Pumpkin Juice, and other beverages (there is a hog’s head on the wall which moves as well!) The Butterbeers are so popular, that there are also Butterbeer wagons in the WWOHP! Butterbeer tastes like cream soda with a yummy, foamy butterscotch-flavored froth on top. Looking for sweets? There’s “Honeydukes,” a charming (very small, but well-stocked) candy shoppe which carries all sorts of candy mentioned in the Harry Potter books: Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Ton-Tongue Toffee, Chocolate Frogs, Pepper Imps, Sugar Quills—you name it, it will probably be here. You can also get desserts there such as Pumpkin Tarts.
If you would like a meal, the restaurant in the WWOHP is the “Three Broomsticks.” Since it is a counter restaurant, reservations are not taken. You get in a line (which moved pretty fast) and (once in) place your order. You pick up your food and an attendant finds seats for you (you aren’t supposed to just walk up to an empty chair) in the large dining hall. British-type fare includes pasties, shepherd’s pie-also chicken, ribs and turkey legs. You can also get Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice, with or without souvenir mug (the Butterbeer can also be gotten in a frozen form). Desserts include peanut butter-strawberry ice cream, apple pie, or chocolate trifle. There’s also a children’s menu (macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, etc.)
If you are a Harry Potter fan, this is definitely a destination for you. The crowds are sure to be large during Spring or Summer Break, but we were there in February and in the middle of the week and the crowds were large then, too. But then there are legions of fans wanting to see their favorite places in the Harry Potter books brought to life. And there has been some scuttlebutt that WWOHP in Island of Adventure may be expanded in the future. All attractions, shops, and eateries had lines…but we wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
