It was designated by the UN General Assembly in Dec 8, 2008. On this day, we can think how we would give back to the oceans and also think about maintaining and protecting the world’s oceans. Plants and bacteria in the oceans provide us with oxygen. Ocean waters are also rich in fish and plants that are essential to our diet. However, the world’s oceans are being damaged every day. The aim of World Oceans Day is to restore ecosystem health. For more info: United Nations, Dept of Public Info, New York, NY 10017. Web: www.un.org.
Coincidentally, “Maritime Adventures” is the theme for the book display at the Fremont Main Library. There are both fictions and nonfictions. The book display is to the left of the Information Desk on the first floor. Grab a copy. Get in the spirit of summer by joining the adventures at sea!
