For the last installment of the Foreign Literature and Films series, Professor Frederic Hsia will speak on Existentialism–Fact and Fiction at the Fremont Main Library, Saturday, July 30, 2011, 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Existentialist literature is the only literary movement with a philosophical origin. It made its appearance in the middle of the 20th century and primarily found its expression in novels. Prof. Hsia will review the philosophical bases of Existentialism and discuss quintessential works such as The Stranger, The Plague, The Brothers Karamazov and others.
This program is aimed at Chinese immigrants and will be conducted in Mandarin.
