The Fremont Unified School District recently unearthed a small treasure trove of early administrative records in an old file cabinet. These records, dated 1891 through 1957, include pupil school registers for several local schools, the minutes and financial accounts of the School Trustees and even a school librarian’s record book. Recognizing the significant historial value of this collection, Fremont Unified School District has donated the collection to the Maurice Marks Center for Local and California History.
This is a thrilling addition to our local history collection. Reading through the pupil registers is like reading a Who’s Who of Fremont as many pioneer families are represented. We are in the process of assessing the conservation needs of this collection and expect to make it available to researchers later this year.
