November is full of holidays, but did you know that it is National Aviation Month? Aviation usually brings to mind airplanes, but it also refers to hot air balloons! We have loads of information about flying machines at the library; here are some interesting facts:
- There are five branches to the aviation industry: (1) aircraft manufacturing, (2) general aviation activities, (3) airline operations, (4) airport operations, and (5) aviation support industries
- Hang gliders can easily fly 100 miles in a single flight.
- Astronaut Neil Armstrong was a Navy Pilot.
Here at the library you can check out books on everything from Apace Helicopter Pilots to Tuskegee Airmen. We have biographies about famous pilots and even super-crafty paper airplanes.
You can also use our Discover & Go program (http://discover.aclibrary.org/) to get free passes to the Oakland Aviation Museum! Learn something new about aviation and explore your inner pilot.
