It may not be Fall on the calendar, but kids have been back in school for a week now.
We finally took down the music notes and instruments from the bulletin board for Read to the Rhythm summer game. Now it’s time to find the good books that teachers recommend/require students to read, and we start our fall programs! — some familiar favorites and some new programs!
At the library, we offer the story time sessions for preschool and toddlers. We continue to provide story times by staff or community groups in Mandarin, Spanish, Russian and –newest!–in Hindi. We will also resume Shake Rattle & Read –a music, rhythm and story time for toddlers (and parents:)–on Tuesdays during our Preschool Story Time session (Sept. 22-Oct.27).
For kids from grades 2 through 8, we have our monthly book clubs. We have a new one for Parents & 4th/5th grade students. All the kids’ book clubs are full. For those of you who missed signing up for September and want to sign up for October, find the meeting date of the club for your grade and call the Children’s Desk a few minutes *after* the end time of the club meeting. That’s when we often have spots for the next month. Then come pick up the book to read as soon as possible:)
We continue to offer science opportunities, We have an exploration of electrical circuits, resistance, etc….. today, using SnapCircuits and on October 19. We will have a coding class on October 9 and in November. Stay tuned for other math, science, coding and maker events this fall — look for Fun Fridays (Coding & Crafts), and other events the library provides…
We also have Science for Youth demonstrations and lectures *by* high school students *for* elementary kids on bubbles, volcanoes, electricity, and other topics on Fridays and Saturdays. See our Event Calendar and the many flyers in our children’s area, for fun and informative things to do this fall!
