music bridgeTreat yourself to music at the Fremont Main Library on Saturday July 9th at 2:00 when Music Bridge, an ensemble of local students perform.  Their repertoire covers pop, jazz, musical scores as well as traditional and classical music from Vietnam and all across Asia.

The ensemble is led by Fremont resident and internationally recognized musician and composer Vân-Ánh Võ.  Vân-Ánh is an Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated multi-instrumentalist and master of the Vietnamese Đàn Tranh, a 16-string plucked zither.  Music Bridge members have performed at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco and Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center.  Bring your family and be inspired by these young talented students!

Fremont Friends of the Library members get to preview 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 8. Membership, available at the door, is $10 per address and runs January to December.

 

Book sale hours are:

Saturday, July 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Sunday, July 10, 12 noon to 3 p.m.

 

Books are $1 per inch stacked, while records and maps are 25 cents each.

Children’s books, SPECIAL books, sheet music, CDs, DVD and jigsaw puzzles are individually priced.

Specially featured are books on American railroads, both old and modern trains.

On Sunday only, $5 per paper grocery bag. Bring your own bags, and no boxes!

 

Book sale items are donated from the libraries and private individuals. All proceeds are given to the Fremont library system to purchase equipment, books, children’s programs, etc.

The ever very popular Summer Reading Game officially starts today, Monday, June 13 and will run through Saturday, August 13.  Other than a bingo game to play on the game board, this year we have an online game for you as well.  Everybody from the newborn to centenarians can play.

For the bingo game, you can sign up at your library any time during open hours starting June 13 and choose one game board depending upon your age.

The annual Kids ‘n Kites Festival is just around the corner.  It is scheduled this coming Saturday, May 14 from 10 am to 3 pm, and locates within Central Park next to Aqua Adventure Waterpark.

This is a free event to the public, and even free kites for the first 3,000 children.  Other than the live entertainment on the stage, there will be interactive booths with information on summer activities, a play area, food and more.

Kite festival goers can also make their way next door to get a look at Fremont’s Aqua Adventure Waterpark.  It will offer a pre-season Splash if weather permitted from 2 to 5 pm with a special one-time entrance minimal fee.

As you can tell, spring is here now and summer is next.  Put down your electronic devices, go outdoors to play and enjoy the warm weather, fresh air and sun!

The Youth Summer Music Program presented for the 22nd season by the Jenny Lin Foundation is now open for registration. All high school music students are encouraged to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to help maintain their skills and to continue performing in a group during the summer. Participants perform in three groups: Symphonic Band (directed by Greg Conway), Symphonic Orchestra (directed by Cary Nasatir), and Chorus (directed by Diana Ryan).

safe kids dayThis is a community event that provides free new booster car seats to families across Alameda county.  500 free new booster car seats will be distributed in conjuction with Safe Kids Day.  The family must live in Alameda County, and meet the applicable income threshold.  Both the child and vehicle must be present for installation of the booster car seat.

EdRev (Education Revolution) is a unique day of information, resources, celebration and community for students who learn differently and the families and professionals who support them. Join Parents Education Network (PEN) to celebrate the eighth annual Education Revolution, EdRev 2016.  There is a professionally jury-ed art contest for students who learn differently.

Categories include:

  • Visual Art: painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper
  • Writing: poetry, essay, short story
  • Video: short film, up to 3 minutes
  • Music: up to 3 minutes of music

Any medium must describe your learning difference.  One submission per student in any art form.  The deadline is March 11, 2016.

All work will be displayed in the Art Gallery at EdRev 2016 at AT&T Park on Saturday, April 16, 9 am to 4 pm.  Participants and a parent/guardian will be invited to attend EdRev and see the work on display in the Art Gallery.  Students will have the opportunity to discuss their work with attendees if they wish to do so.

  1. A day-long event educating students, specifically girls, in the 6th to 8th grade about the fundamentals of leadership and entrepreneurship. Students who are interested in the field of business and curious about entrepreneurship will be exposed to characteristics of a great leader and to marketing, finance, business management and administration through various activities. They will then use what they learn to simulate their own business and compete with other students at the workshop.

2.   TiE  is world’s largest entrepreneurship forum and is a nonprofit organization with yearly events like TieCon. The TiE organization is organizing a series of workshops for 9th – 12th graders on entrepreneurship. Students will learn how successful entrepreneurs start companies and get a chance to interact with them directly. Classes are open to all students who are highly motivated to start their own companies; and there are no prerequisites.
