If you haven’t signed up for this year’s summer reading game – Read For the Win, you’d better hurry.

This Saturday, 8/13, will be the last day to sign up to play.  Once you’ve signed up, you can continue to read and play until 8/31.  This year, other than the paper bingo game, we also have an online game, which means you can win double the prizes.

And for all the adult and teen players — this year we are having a raffle if you entered your email or phone number when you sign up.  The prize will be a Fitbit band for adult and GoPro camera for teen.

The ever very popular Summer Reading Game officially starts today, Monday, June 13 and will run through Saturday, August 13.  Other than a bingo game to play on the game board, this year we have an online game for you as well.  Everybody from the newborn to centenarians can play.

For the bingo game, you can sign up at your library any time during open hours starting June 13 and choose one game board depending upon your age.

Spinning starts June 20, a week after the start day,  and ends Wednesday, August 31.

  • Teens: smencil
  • Adults:  book bag

Final prize for all age groups will be a book.

The annual Kids ‘n Kites Festival is just around the corner.  It is scheduled this coming Saturday, May 14 from 10 am to 3 pm, and locates within Central Park next to Aqua Adventure Waterpark.

This is a free event to the public, and even free kites for the first 3,000 children.  Other than the live entertainment on the stage, there will be interactive booths with information on summer activities, a play area, food and more.

Kite festival goers can also make their way next door to get a look at Fremont’s Aqua Adventure Waterpark.  It will offer a pre-season Splash if weather permitted from 2 to 5 pm with a special one-time entrance minimal fee.

As you can tell, spring is here now and summer is next.  Put down your electronic devices, go outdoors to play and enjoy the warm weather, fresh air and sun!

The Youth Summer Music Program presented for the 22nd season by the Jenny Lin Foundation is now open for registration. All high school music students are encouraged to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to help maintain their skills and to continue performing in a group during the summer. Participants perform in three groups: Symphonic Band (directed by Greg Conway), Symphonic Orchestra (directed by Cary Nasatir), and Chorus (directed by Diana Ryan).
  • Program dates: June 20 to July 29, 2016 (6 weeks)
  • Rehearsal time: Mondays & Wednesdays 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

safe kids dayThis is a community event that provides free new booster car seats to families across Alameda county.  500 free new booster car seats will be distributed in conjuction with Safe Kids Day.  The family must live in Alameda County, and meet the applicable income threshold.  Both the child and vehicle must be present for installation of the booster car seat.

Want to find out the talents of our students and staff in the Fremont Unified School District? The 4th annual talent show is the right event for you to enjoy.  The students are trying hard to win up to $2,400 in total for their schools, so the competition is hot.  Acts include singing, dancing, martial art, flute, band, electric guitar, violin, piano, etc… Come one and all, and cheer for them!

Date: Saturday, Nov 14.

Time: 11 am to 1 pm & 3 pm to 5 pm

Come and celebrate Filipino American History Month with the East Bay Filipino American National Historical Society. Come, beyond lumpiabe entertained and enlightened by:

  • Teri Bautista’s review of a 400-year timeline of the Filipino American experience.
  • Beyond Lumpia, Pansit and Seven Manangs Wild authors reading and book signing.
  • Manang Connie Santos on her 1929 ocean crossing from Manila to Seattle.
  • Brian Villa Connor performing his guitar compositions.
  • Harana, the Movie, with introduction by co-producer Fides Enriquez, on the lost art of serenade.
  • Senkotiros International demonstrating arnis (stick fighting).
  • The American Center of Philippine Arts (ACPA) Rondalla (string ensemble).
  • Camille Canlas LaFlam narrating in English children’s stories by Filipino authors.

The Fremont Main Library, a branch of the Alameda County Library system, is located at  2400 Stevenson Boulevard and is wheelchair accessible.
