
Transitioning from Employee to Entrepreneur was presented on Tuesday, June 17 at the Fremont Main Library as part of the series Small Business Solutions at the Fremont Main Library. The series is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Alameda County Library.
Alan Olsen, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Managing Partner of leading Bay Area accounting firm Greenstein, Rogoff, Olsen & Company (GROCO), provided guidance on what it takes to become, and succeed as an entrepreneur. Alan and his firm have worked with some of the most influential entrepreneurs in the world, who have helped build companies such as Google, Skype, eBay, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Compaq and America Online. GROCO was recognized in October 2007 by INSIDE Public Accounting as one of the Best-Managed CPA firms in the United States.
National media such as the Journal of Accountancy, Money magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, and Portfolio.com, as well as local business journals and news broadcasts, have sought Alan’s insight and expertise on tax matters for their financial coverage.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University-Provo, and a Master of Business Administration (Taxation) from California State University at Hayward. He and his wife Susan have been married for 23 years, and are parents to seven children, two of whom are attending Brigham Young University–Idaho. He currently serves as a member of President Kim B. Clark’s Advancement Council at BYU–Idaho.
