msw2 logoMoney Smart Week is a national initiative in its seventh year between the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank (Chicago) to provide financial literacy programming to help community members better manage their personal finances. Money Smart Week will be from April 22-29, 2017.  Money smart programs at the Fremont Main Library this month include:

Tuesday, April 4, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Financial Advisor Chunchi Ma of investment firm Waddell & Reed, will share insights into various college funding options available to parents, from the well-known 529 plan, to the less popular Coverdell Plans, their pros and cons, and other less traditional methods.

Tuesday, April 11, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

The Bankruptcy Court is where you go when you need protection from your creditors and a fresh start. Attorney Eric Boeing has represented people in bankruptcy cases since 2009. At this event, Attorney Boeing will discuss and answer your questions about: using income, assets, expenses, and debts to predict your case’s outcome; the differences between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13; what can disqualify you from filing a case; what the Court’s protection covers; what assets you can keep (Spoiler: most of them); when not to file (or wait).

Tuesday, April 25, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Many business owners don’t think about tax planning until it’s time to meet their CPA. Brian Chong, CPA, CFP® will teach strategies to reduce business owners’ taxes. Brian, whose clients are mostly engineers, real estate investors, and business owners, has been doing taxes since 2001. He is a UC Berkeley economics graduate and holds a Master’s degree in taxation from San Jose State. Brian is a licensed CPA and Enrolled Agent.

The Fremont Main Library, a branch of the Alameda County Library system, is located at 2400 Stevenson Boulevard and is wheelchair accessible.
