Did you know that research shows that a simple way to enhance intelligence, creativity, self-esteem, and academic ability in kids is to give them the gift of knowing more than one language? And, that this can be valuable and can be done, even if the parents do not know the language!

A very easy way to start this process is by having your kids have fun with the new language through stories and poems.

To help you do this, the creator of the “13-min A Day” Online Hindi Immersion Program and Co-Founder of Cheeni for Tots, Rakhi Sharma, brings you a FREE On-line Hindi-English Bilingual Story Time for kids.

This unique story-time for tots (aged 3-8) and their parents, is designed to be a time of fun and frolic, a time to enjoy stories, poems, and songs in a new language, Hindi (together with English explanations and interactions). This allows kids to soak in the language and learn, without even realizing it! It is open for parents and kids from all the beautiful cultures of the world, and kids/parents do not need to know the Hindi language.

To preserve interactivity, spots are limited (to just 20), and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and (going by the popularity Cheeni-for-Tots’ other programs) will likely to disappear fast. So, hurry here to register, NOW!

Online Story time will be Tuesdays, 6:30pm PST Starting April 3rd, 2012. To participate, sign-up to participate at cheenifortots.com/Library/storytime

Alameda County Libraries have partnered with Art is Education for the month of March. All month we will have different types of art-related programming going on at all of our branches. Here at Fremont Main, we would like to invite families to a special afternoon program on Tuesday, March 20th. Each family (up to 45 families) is invited to make a paper quilt square that will be combined to make a large paper quilt. This quilt will be on display in the library for some time after the program. We are passing out FREE tickets to this event for families beginning at 3:15 at the Children’s Desk. Each family will make one quilt square together following our overall theme. Each child will also make a quilt square of their own to take home with them. All supplies will be provided for this program.

Program Details:

Tuesday, March 20th from 3:30-4:30 pm in Fukaya A (please enter through the Children’s side of the library).

Free tickets will be passed out at the children’s desk, beginning at 3:15 pm on March 20th.

Please contact the Children’s Desk at: (510) 745-1421 or email Mary Ayers at: mcayers@aclibrary.org for more information.

Each month we will have a book party right here at the Fremont Library! We will read a story or two, and then do a craft or have a snack related to our books/theme for the day. We want to show you how much fun you can have with books and stories. Crafts and related snacks help children remember the story and remember it fondly.

Our book party will meet in the Storytime Theater in the children’s area of the library. We are meeting on Tuesday, October 11th at 5:30 pm. Please be right on time if you are attending, as we have another group in the room right at 6 pm. We hope to see you there as we share a Halloween story and craft!

For more information, contact Mary Ayers at (510) 745-1408 or email at mcayers@aclibrary.org.

Did you know that the Fremont Library has three children’s book discussion groups? We currently have a group for 2nd and 3rd graders, Hooked on Books, a group for 4th-6th graders, called Between the Lines, and a 6th-8th grade group, called Tween Page Turners.

Each group meets once a month. Hooked on Books met just this past week and had a great turnout. We still have a few spots available for next month’s meeting.

If you are interested in signing up for the October discussion (October 12th at 4 pm), you will need to stop by the children’s desk to register and pick up a copy of the book.

Join us at our last preschool craft program in the Fukaya Rooms on Tuesday, August 9th at 1:30 pm!

We’ve had a lot of fun so far in our previous three craft days. We’ve made handprint sunflowers, paper plate turtles and hot air balloons mosaics.

All of the crafts are designed for preschoolers to make on their own, with a little assistance from an adult. The crafts help preschoolers practice cutting with scissors, using glue sticks, coloring with crayons, following directions and best of all, have fun with crafts!

Our last class for the summer is Tuesday, August 9th at 1:30 pm. Please stop by the Children’s Desk at 1:15 pm to pick up your free tickets for the program.

Preschool Crafts will continue in the fall, and will move back to its original day (fourth Wednesday of the month) at 1 pm.

Our monthly preschool crafts program will continue this summer! We will host four preschool crafts on TUESDAYS (not Wednesdays). Each of the four programs will feature a different craft activity meant for children ages 3-5 years old. A parent is expected to attend with their child, but we will not allow older siblings to attend as there will not be enough space. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Tuesdays, June 28th, July 12th and 26th, and August 9th from 1:30 – 2pm.  We will pass out free tickets before each program, beginning at 1:15pm. Each child attending the program must have a ticket to attend. We have 50 spots in each program.

For more information, please contact the Children’s Desk at (510) 745-1421 or e-mail Mary Ayers at mcayers@aclibrary.org .
