Maisie Dobbs is the main character in a mystery series by Jacqueline Winspear. I say mystery series, but the books feel more like historical novels that happen to have a mystery. The books take place in post world war I England and are rich with historical detail. In the first book , Maisie Dobbs, we meet Maisie as she is setting up her new detective agency in London. The mystery starts quickly, and as we get closer to solving the mystery, we learn much about Maisie’s past. This novel gives an excellent picture of the wold pre-World War I and immediately after. In the second book, Birds of a Feather, the mystery is more complex and we are beginning to see some of the longer term consequences of war.

These books can be found in both book  and ebook formats.

If  you enjoy  historical  mysteries you  might  also  want  to  try  the  mysterys by Edward Marston. I enjoy his Railway Detective series.
