Today I am taking you on a trip to the recent past. Let’s take a look at some events from the first thirteen days of April 2006 with the help of Chase’s Calendar of Events.
In 2006…
1. This day was both National Fun Day and Boomer Bonus Day. Here’s hoping that the Boomers had fun.
2. Hans Christian Andersen was born on this day in 1805. If he’d lived until 2006, he would have been 201 years old.
3. Alec Baldwin turned 48, Doris Day was 82, and Eddie Murphy celebrated his 45th birthday. Quite the popular birthday.
4. Bonza Bottler Day was celebrated on this day. Apparently, it in an excuse to have a party on the fourth day of the fourth month. (And 5/5, etc.)
5. This day was Thank You, School Librarian Day as well as Stories Day. It sounds like those two would work pretty well together if you ask me.
6. On this day they tried to somehow deal with the fact that it was both National Alcohol Screening Day and National Fun at Work Day. If you add to this the fact that it was also Tartan Day, you can just imagine what the results must have been. Personally, I think that there must have been all sorts of dancing.
7. Jackie Chan turned 52 and James Garner was 78 on this day.
8. This day was the 40th Anniversary that the Poll Tax was outlawed.
9. Ever hear of “Jenkin’s Ear Day?” Well, this was the 275th Anniversary of said day. Let’s just say that Britain declared war on Spain because of that ear.
10. Peter MacNicol turned 52, Haley Joel Osment was all of 18, and Steven Seagal was still hard to kill at 55 on this day.
11. People sang in harmony for Barbershop Quartet Day and Florida celebrated Children’s Day.
12. If you combine National Licorice Day with Walk on Your Wild Side Day, does it mean that folks were trying bold new licorice flavors? (For the record, I’ll eat the black licorice if you don’t want it.)
13. My Mother’s birthday. And no, I will not be telling you how old she was in 2006, as she reads this blog too. (Have a good birthday, Mum!)
I’ve not heard of Chase’s Calendar of Events, but it must be a good reference if it has the important dates down to your mom’s b. day. Cool. I should consult this calendar.
Happy Birthday to your mom!
It’s also Autism Awareness day.
You can have all my black licorice! Fun list and a great idea for a TT.
I love black licorice, too! My kids think it’s gross.
I really enjoy your blog, I just read back over a few posts. I’m definitely going to start using “a parliament of owls.”
My T-13 is about the books I read this month, I thought you might be interested.
Walk on your Wild Side day? Yeah, I resemble that….
Hi Brenda. No, my mum isn’t in Chase’s…yet. I fully expect that she will do something soon to make her famous enough, though. Check with you local library to see if they have a copy. It’s quite the large book.
Thanks, Carmen. 🙂
Thanks for the black licorice, Barbara. 😀
I’ll share mine with you, jenn.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the blog, Ruby Canary.
Susan, did you see that they’re making a film of Where the Wild Things are?
rabbits like licorice but they are not supposed to eat it because they can’t digest the sugar. Thought you might like that little piece of trivia.
I remember learning all about the War of Jenkins’ Ear in school!
Chases’s Calendar of Events is one of my favorite reference books. The combination of all those days that you listed at #6 would definitely make for an interesting day.
Okay, Daily Panic, I won’t be sharing with any bunnies. 🙂
Interesting what the impetus for a war can boil down to, eh Nicholas?
I adore Chase’s too, Malcolm. And yeah. Quite the day.
