A while back, I did a list of places called “Paris” other than the Paris in France. This time around, I’ve gone with places called Athens (other than the one in Greece.) I know that I’ve been to Athens, Georgia, but I don’t think that I’ve visited any of the others. Have you?
Athens…:
1. Athens, Maine
2. Athens, Alabama
3. Athens, Georgia
4. Athens, Ohio
5. Athens, Texas
6. Athens, Wisconsin
7. Athens, Illinois
8. Athens, New York (the Town)
9. Athens, Tennessee
10. Athens, Vermont
11. Athens, West Virginia
12. Athens, California
13. Athens, New York (the Village)
I don’t remember going to any of these places, but if any of them are tiny towns along a highway, I may have driven through one or two.
one of my best friends is currently in grad school in athens, oh. i visited her last march and will be going again at the end of february. it is a cute little college town with lots of hills, old victorian style houses and little shops. i look forward to eating at their inventive little mexican joint casa nueva during my next trip.
Interesting how names of places get repeated. Whenever someone mentions a place like Long Beach, or Huntington Park then references some area other than Southern California, I’m caught a bit off guard for just a moment. I clicked on the link for Athens, CA to see where it’s located and was surprised to learn it’s in South Los Angeles … an area near where I grew up … yet I’ve never heard of the place. Strange, eh?
Hugs and blessings,
I’m glad I don’t live West of Athens. It doesn’t have the same ring.
I’ve been to Athens GA.
I may have driven through the one in Georgia years ago when we lived there, but never knew the others existed.
Interesting list. Happy TT!
Come to think of it, Alice Audrey…I’ll bet that I have too.
Oooo! Thanks for the Intel, jehara. Sounds like a nice place.
storyteller, I was surprised about that one, too.
Susan, I’m thinking that “East of Athens” would have a better ring to it. π
Journeywoman, yep. That’s the one I know I’ve been to, as well.
Thanks for stopping by, kandyblossom.
That’s a lot of Athens. Who knew?
I’ve been to Athens, GA but my most vivid memory is of trying to remember which way on the bypass is shorter. π
Very interesting.. I’ve been to five of them when I was a diplomat in New York, and I am glad to learn that there are eight more.. best regards
